Use Case

Overview
The Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS), part of ETH Zurich, is a premier European facility that develops and operates high-performance computing infrastructure. It drives cutting-edge scientific research and provides advanced supercomputing resources like the Alps system.
Solutions
CSCS built a secure architecture using VAST for the Alps supercomputer. By combining VAST’s storage encryption and multi-tenancy with HPE Slingshot network fencing, it enables secure, isolated research on sensitive AI and HPC workloads.
Results
CSCS successfully validated an architecture that achieves isolated, secure multi-tenancy with storage encryption on the Alps supercomputer. The system met all high-throughput targets under testing with zero performance loss, earning the CUG 2026 Best Paper Award.
