Overview
CINECA is one of the world’s most preeminent computing centers and a leader in global supercomputing. Its Leonardo supercomputer is #12 on the TOP500 and its GAIA is Italy’s largest HPC/cloud for public research, supporting scientists and engineers from 70 Italian universities and 50 research institutions. As one of the key pillars of the GAIA project, VAST will enable CINECA to create, manage and protect a 50 PB multi-protocol data lake connected to Leonardo and additional computing infrastructures.
Solution
As scientific datasets grew, managing data across HPC, AI, and cloud workflows is critical for discovery. Legacy parallel systems cannot handle this convergence. CINECA now delivers modern, unified infrastructure for cloud, AI, and big data to solve complex global challenges.
Results
The VAST AI OS provides CINECA a high-performance, scale-out foundation. Moving beyond legacy parallel file systems, CINECA gets parallel-grade performance and scale via standard NAS protocols like NFS, delivering simple management, high reliability, and zero compromise.
